Programme offers Irish investors access to world's leading hedge fund managers

18th June 2008

Ulster Bank Wealth has launched the Ulster Bank Wealth Alternative Investment Programme, a qualifying investor programme which consists of a series of multi-manager hedge funds. As part of the RBS Group, Ulster Bank Wealth has direct access to the best international investment offerings of RBS Coutts.

The Alternative Investment Programme provides Irish investors with access to some of the world's leading hedge fund managers such as Moore Capital, Lansdowne Partners and Marshall Wace who employ a range of sophisticated investment strategies including, equity hedged, fixed income arbitrage and global macro strategies.

Currently, RBS Coutts has $12bn of private wealth invested in these strategies and this represents the first opportunity for Irish investors to have access to these funds. The funds have consistently delivered superior risk adjusted returns and enable Ulster Bank Wealth to deliver more stable returns in its core portfolio management programme.

Commenting on the benefit to private investors from accessing the programme, Joe Molloy, Head of Wealth, Ulster Bank said; "These funds have demonstrated an ability to generate 80% to 90% of market upside for investors while considerably limiting their downside risk. This is very attractive in an environment, where currently, blue chip stocks are fluctuating between 5% and 10 % on any given day. Given the superior risk control and the diversification they provide, these funds form the strategic bedrock of Ulster Bank Wealth's core portfolio offering."

The programme is open for subscription through the Ulster Bank's Business Banking Offices across the country, to qualifying investors on a quarterly basis with the initial offer period closing at the end of June.

About Ulster Bank Wealth

Ulster Bank Wealth was set up in 2007 to deliver customised wealth preservation, generation and transfer initiatives. A key part of the Ulster Bank Wealth offering is the unique ability to draw on the global wealth capabilities within the RBS Group, particularly Coutts, a world leader in providing high net worth individuals with investment advice.

  • Wealth Generation: to build future wealth, with the potential for higher returns and a higher risk approach
